As we strive to get the latest cool brands in, our newest addition is one we think our customers will really like. NFD (Never Fully Dressed) is a brand that is not only individual, but also reflects the fact that we are not all the same in terms of what we like to wear. With a fresh outlook that is a little bit daring but not over the top, we think that you will really like this brand and it will soon become one of our customer’s favourites. Photo shoots will take place over this weekend and pictures will be on our website soon after, so keep checking our site and our facebook page.

Again, Clothes Rail has been looking for some more brands to keep our growing customer base happy.! After some research and deliberation, one new brand we chose to stock is RARE. This brand is for people who, according to part of the RARE philosophy, like to assert an identity of their own. We like this way of thinking at Clothes Rail as we can empathise with it. The individual styling of the RARE dresses is what drew us to this brand; they are eye-catching, sexy and with a refinement that you don’t normally find outside of the £200+ price range. Indeed, the price was another point that drew us towards this brand, as RARE has got the balance just right between the price reflecting the quality of their garments. You really do get what you pay for with RARE, a quality that can be hard to find. This is ideal for Clothes Rail customer’s who know that we sell quality clothes at a price that everyone can afford. We are really excited by this brand and know you will be too. The photo shoot will take place this weekend, with pictures being on the website and facebook next week...Watch this space...!

At Clothes Rail, we have decided to add a new collection to our range. We were looking for a brand that is well known and that would appeal to our customers. After careful consideration, we decided that Lipsy would be the perfect brand for us to stock. Not only does it complement the style of clothing that we already sell, but Lipsy is also only stocked by trendy, high quality retail outlets such as Selfridges Manchester, Bank and asos online. So keep watching for the arrival of our new Lipsy range on our website.

Another new brand that we have decided to add to our ever-growing collection is John Zack, which is stocked in well known retail outlets such as House of Fraser & Top Shop. We like the style of this range of womenswear, with very affordable prices and good quality; we believe this trendy clothing will compliment the new Lipsy range nicely. So keep checking out our website for the arrival of John Zack, and for future updates of new, up and coming collections.
We like individuality at Clothes Rail and things that are a little bit different, so we did an interview with the punk band St. Tantrums to find out a little bit more about them.....
1. How did you all come up with the band name. St. Tantrums? “We came up with the band name by just throwing name ideas about. St. Tantrums seemed to fit as it was catchy and our singer always throws a tantrum on stage whilst singing.”
2. When did your band form? “We formed the band at the back end of 2008 through a mutual friend and decided to get together and make some noise and see how it went. We felt we had something new in terms of sound, different from anything else on the punk scene at the time, and wanted to see how far we could take it as well as just loving getting together and making our own style of music.”
3. Who is in the band and what do they do/play? “There are four of us in the band: Seb who does vocals, Gaz who plays the drums, John who plays the bass and Ben who plays the guitar.”
4. What style of music do you play? “Sleazy Punk Rock ‘n’ Roll.”
5. Who are your musical influences? “We all have our own and some of the same influences such as Rancid, Motorhead, The Clash, Sex Pistols, Psycho Surgeons, The Damned and the Misfits etc.”
6. Does your music have a message? “We don’t really have a message we are just all about the music itself and try to write catchy and accessible songs even for those people who don’t necessarily like punk.”
7. Where do you or have you played? “We have quite a lot of gigs under our belts now and have played locally and further afield. We have played at Rios, Delius, Exchange Alehouse, the Manville Arms, Zuu Bar and Black Swan in Bradford. We have also played at various venues in Shipley, Hull, Harrogate, Stockport, Halifax and Wakefield.”
8. Where can people hear your songs? “People can hear our music at www.studsandpunks.co.uk and also on myspace at www.myspace.com/sainttantrums.”
9. What are the bands plans for the future? “We plan to keep gigging as much as possible and to extend our playing to further afield in the UK. We also plan to release another E.P mini album and keep writing newer songs.”
10. What’s your opinion on the punk scene at present? “The punk scene is still moving after all these years. There are still some great bands out there old and new. The only thing that could improve is that more of the bands could adopt the punk DIY ethos of sticking together and putting on/arranging gigs and tours etc. with each other.”
1. When did you decide that you wanted to be in the music industry? “Music played a big part in my life from a young age. My mum and aunty were destined for the music industry. They used to promote music as a way of life in schools to deter young people from taking drugs. They wrote songs to do this and I used to take part when I was 9 to 10 years of age. From the age of 9 to 16 I wanted to be a footballer, but due to injuries I started to stay at home more and this is when I really got back into my music. At the age of 15 to16 I started DJ-ing, playing Garage music in local clubs like Palm Cove, Bradford. I did this for 4 to 5 years and won trophies for the ‘North’s No.1 DJ’ three years in a row in the late 1990’s. During the last couple of years of my DJ-ing career the music scene changed, and at this time, my brother gave me a groove box which is a small music studio-in-one. I made my first tune using this and I was hooked on music producing instantly.”
2. What sort of music do you produce? “I produce my music based on what I am feeling at that particular time. My music always has an urban / soul feel to it, but with a mix of all musical genres (r’n’b, dance etc.). For this reason I write all of my own songs”
3. What are your influences / who are your influences?
“Aside from my early family life influences, my main influences have been music icons such as Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder and other music legends. I don’t get much time to watch TV these days so I don’t have any real present day influences.”
4. What do you think of the clothes at Clothes Rail?
“Wicked Man.! Up-to-date and stylish. You sell clothes that I wear so they must be good!”

Lee Jo in his Clothes Rail clothing
5. Does your music have a message? “All of my songs have meanings that are personal to me but with vocals that people can relate to. I write songs about how I am feeling, so the songs can be about love, hurt, anger etc. Feelings that all people have felt and can empathise with.”
6. Where have you played? “I have played in clubs such as Rehab and The Fruit Cupboard in Leeds, and Railway and The Love Apple in Bradford. I performed at The Love Apple and shot a music video there promoting Peace N Love. I generally perform my music at local clubs, and events such as Bradford and Leeds Carnivals.”
7. Where can people hear / buy / download your music? “I am on all the top social networking mediums: Twitter, You Tube, My Space and Facebook. People can listen to my music on You Tube under the name Lee Jo. If people like my music they can get an album of my songs by contacting me. Of course I am looking for sponsors to finance the distribution of my music so that I can take it to a wider audience.”
8. What are your plans for the future? “My dream is to be a big music producer like Timberland. I am not bothered about being at the forefront performing my songs, as my main passion is producing the music not performing it. I am currently working with people who I hope will help me achieve this aim, for example, I am working on an album with the artist DOWDS my Lil Brother (AKA ‘Da One With Da Skills). I am also working on albums with my other brother Elliot Sivad and cousins Melisha Bleau and DARKS, who is quite well known locally.
9. What do you think of the state of the music industry at present? “The music industry is an extremely hard business to get into, but I am determined to make a name for myself and with effort, hard work, determination, creative talent and a touch of luck, I am sure I will get where I want to be.”
Style icons, are there any left... Over the next few weeks, Clothes Rail will voice its opinion on who we believe to be style icons of this modern era. We would define an icon as a person who not only has style but also substance; just because a person can afford to buy exclusive clothing doesn’t mean they look good in them or know how to where them. We believe that it is not the clothes that make the person, but, for the main part, it is the person that makes the clothes. We will be choosing people in the public eye from all walks of life and splitting them into two categories (male and female) until we get a top 20 list for both. Let’s see if you agree with our choices.?
Our first choice is the footballer Ryan Giggs. At the age of 36, he still plays a key role in the make up of the Manchester United team. He doesn’t crave media attention like some footballer’s (“celebrities”) we could mention, but when he is interviewed he comes across polite, intelligent and well mannered. Whilst he is normally pictured in his football kit playing the beautiful game, he is also always well groomed at social functions and on TV. His dress sense is second to none whether he’s in a well tailored designer suit and fitted shirt, or a more casual look, sporting a nice pair of jeans with a smooth looking top.
So Ryan get’s a Clothes Rail rating of 5 out of 5. ![]()

Our second icon and first female may surprise some of you, but we regard Leona Lewis as a chic and classy young starlet, somewhat reminiscent of an iconic, celebrated leading lady. She hasn’t been in the media spotlight for long, but she is very talented vocally, and from her first appearance on the X factor auditions in 2006 to winning the final, she handled herself with grace and decorum throughout the competition. She doesn’t court media attention and seems to be quite a private person, and at the tender age of 25 her dress sense is exemplary. She always looks sophisticated and demure, and if you’re in any doubt about our opinion of Leona take a look at these photos of her, and you will see why Clothes Rail gives Leona Lewis a rating of 5 out of 5.

Barack Obama. Well, what can we say about Barack..? Just because he is the most powerful man in the world doesn’t necessarily mean that he would get on our list. Nor the fact that he is the first person of mixed
ethnic origin to be the president of the United States, which is a remarkable achievement in itself, still wouldn’t give him right to be on our list. Rather it is the charisma that he exudes, his intellect, his humour, the love he openly shows for his family, the hope that he carries with him from millions of people all over the world, so much so that he is already a Nobel peace prize recipient. Lastly the belief he has in his heart for the United States of America and everything good that the country stands for. All this at just forty nine years of age. So does he have substance? Your damn right he does. Now let’s talk about style. When was the last time you saw an American President, no scratch that, let’s say any world leader, who would look as good walking down the catwalk of an Armani fashion show as he does at a meeting of the world’s most powerful leaders. Suits seem to just fit him perfectly, and he looks good casual too. George Bush, take note, Barack Obama is without any shadow of a doubt the future, and I am looking forward to it. Clothes Rail definitely rates Barack Obama 5 out of 5.

Charlize Theron also makes our list. Always perfectly dressed, she started off her career as a young model. Soon afterwards she established herself as a fine actress. Charlize doesn’t stick to roles that are normal for women with her kind of stunning looks. Whilst the same cannot be said of some actresses, who tend to be typecast into roles of all make up and smiles but not much acting ability, Charlize pushes her acting skills to the limit with challenging film roles. As we saw in the film ‘Monster,’ which landed her with a well deserved Oscar, Charlize has a wealth of acting ability and depth. We would describe her style as glamorous and sophisticated. She has a certain sparkle in her eyes that can light up a room when she enters, wearing a stunning couture dress.
So Charlize gets a big thumb’s up from Clothes Rail; what can we say except 5 out of 5.

Clothes Rail Boutique
By the end of 2010, Clothes Rail plans to launch a women's branded clothing boutique in Headingley, a trendy inner suburb of Leeds. Home to the renowned Headingley Cricket Stadium and part of Leeds Metropolitan University, Headingley is a popular, vibrant and fashionable community due its many shops, bars and buzzing café culture. This is why we believe Headingley to be the perfect place to open a chic women's clothing boutique, selling trendsetting brands that guarantee a look of individuality.

Headingley Town Centre
Watch this space for the latest in fashion
In the near future, Clothes Rail will be contacting local Universities with the intention of profiling their up and coming fashion designers, and featuring their collections on our website.
Granny wouldn't like it.!
Clothes Rail's womenswear collection will also be extended to include a 'Granny wouldn't like it' section, which will feature Club & Dancewear.
Clothes Rail had plans to open a shop in Headingley later this year, but after consideration we decided to have a look round at other local town centres as alternative areas (Keighley, Otley, Bingley, Shipley etc.). The place that stood out was Halifax, surprisingly, as we liked the lay out of the shops in the town and the vibrancy and atmosphere of the town centre. Headingley remains a strong contender in terms of the student market, trendy surroundings and upwardly mobile community, so we feel our clothes would definitely appeal to the local people. Halifax strengths are its size and historical history. Its larger size means markedly increased footfall traffic, which hopefully would translate into more sales.! Its historical history, with the piece hall and local trade events that are widely advertised and take place frequently, attract a wide range of tourists looking for that something different. Therefore, the appeal for a Clothes Rail shop is swinging towards Calderdale and the town of Halifax, will keep you all informed of our decision...
With the birth of our son Addison in July this year, our plans to open a Clothes Rail boutique have been slightly delayed: We had hoped to have the boutique opened before the end of 2010, but realistically we are now looking at the beginning to the middle of 2011. This delay has, however, given us the opportunity to do more research with regard to the town centres that would befit the style of clothing we sell. Pudsey is now the top of our list as the town where we will open our first Clothes Rail Ladies Boutique. The reasons are as follows: (a) Pudsey is only fifteen minutes drive from where we are based, so commuting there should be relatively quick, (b) Pudsey is a small but vibrant town centre, with some large, well-known high street stores already established there, (c) Pudsey has a well respected Leeds postcode, (d) the local community is friendly and upwardly mobile, (e) the rent and rates of the town centre retail properties are very reasonable in comparison to Headingley and Halifax town centres and (f) Clothes Rail would benefit from already having customers in Pudsey and surrounding areas. These existing customers would tell their friends about Clothes Rail and we all know how important word-of-mouth can be in terms of making your business a success. We appreciate that opening our first Clothes Rail boutique next year will be challenging, especially with the state of the economy at present. We do feel that when weighing up the pros and cons, however, Pudsey offers the best all round chance of Clothes Rail achieving a successful retail outlet, which will complement and bolster our website and already well-established mobile business.

Loft, Preston
Written by Simon Hunter, 26th August 2010
At Clothes Rail we like to keep you updated with current fashion trends, and we also like to tell our customers about things we like and would be happy to recommend. In the years we have been going out on a Saturday night, we have gone to many town centres and have had some really good nights. One of the town’s centres we would rate very highly is Preston, with Loft wine bar topping our list of bars to go to. The best in “R ‘n’ B” music is played until 1pm, when they switch to dance music until the wee small hours. The clientelle is always smartly dressed; you won’t find any trainers or tracksuit tops here.! The atmosphere is always good... you tend to find yourself getting caught up in the tunes that are being played. Over the years, other clubs have changed in Preston and don’t tend to be as good as they once were, but Loft has stayed consistent. Indeed, with it coming up to its seventh year anniversary, we can wholeheartedly say it has got better and better with age. You can check out contact details for Loft on our Adverts page where we give it a Clothes Rail rating of 5 out of 5.

King Georges Hall, Blackburn
Written by Simon Hunter, 2nd September 2010
Another night spot we really like at Clothes Rail is King George’s Hall in the centre of Blackburn, which hosts a variety of shows and events. One of the events we have attended over the years is the soul night, which they have about every three months on a Saturday. Just as at the Loft in Preston, the dress code is good: Guys wear jeans or trousers with a smart top or shirt, and ladies are always immaculately dressed, wearing a variety of stunning outfits. As you can imagine, we appreciate this more than most at Clothes Rail.! The night is staged over three floors, with Northern Soul in the Concert Hall, Jazz Funk in Blakey’s and contemporary R ‘n’ B in the Windsor Suite. The venue is a large one and on soul nights, we would estimate there to be as many as 3,000 people attending. As a consequence, you normally have to book fairly early. You can pay on the night but we would advise booking with the Box Office or online, as it does tend to sell out. We have met people there who have travelled up from as far as London to go, after hearing how good the night is. The atmosphere is excellent with dance floors being full on all three levels all night long. People here are strictly lovers of good music, and that is a rare thing to find nowadays. No binge drinkers here we’re happy to say.! We like to think at Clothes Rail that we know quality, and that is why we say that if you’re after a quality night out then look no further than King George’s Hall in Blackburn. Their soul night is thoroughly recommended by Clothes Rail... we give it a rating of 5 out of 5.

Living rooms
Written by Simon Hunter, 16th February 2011
Clothes Rail was out in Leeds on Saturday night socialising. One of the bars we visited was ‘Living Rooms’ on Greek street. On the ground floor as you enter there is a large room with a bar at the rear wall, some nice music is played in there with a vibrant varied mix of people who are enjoying the atmosphere of a classy establishment. You can usually find live music being played on a piano (nice!). Towards the far corner on this floor ‘Living Rooms’ also has a restaurant and although we have never eaten here, we have heard good reports of the standard of cuisine. You can also go downstairs where they have another room with a bar and more music being played, varying from 80’s soul classics to retro dance music. They also have an upper floor which they use as their VIP area. We think that ‘Living Rooms’ has got it just right; it’s classy with a capital C, we liked the atmosphere, we liked the people in there, we liked the music and just in case we forgot to mention it’s free entry. We know that everyone has different taste and you may not agree with us but for Clothes Rail, this is one of the better wine bars/clubs that we have been in. Hence we have given ‘Living Rooms’ in Leeds a rating of 5 out of 5.

Clothes Rail thinks yes, it does matter. What you wear and how you look shapes peoples opinion of you as a person. Don’t get me wrong, your outfit doesn’t have to cost hundreds of pounds or have the latest fad designer name on it, but to dress with style and to look good is an art and not everyone can pull it off. How many times do you see that person with jeans that are two sizes too small with rolls of skin hanging over the sides? Surely these people must look in a mirror at some point and realise this is not a good look... Or equally girls with dresses and skirts that are so short that their bum cheeks are hanging out and their underwear is on show for the world to see. Guys with their jeans so low that they walk around looking like penguins, not good. Personal choice is personal choice and we are all individual and there are no hard and fast rules to fashion, but having style isn’t hard, believe it or not, it just takes a little thought and some creativity. Not to mention a pinch of self respect and trust me you won’t be going far wrong. The sexiest look is the one that leaves something to the imagination, if everything you’ve got is already on show then what is there for someone to look forward to. To look cool, a well designed shirt is always better than an un-ironed t-shirt, and trainers are casual wear and not for Saturday nights out. Remember dressing to impress is always best.

The idea that inspired the launch of the pioneering online fashion store Net-a-Porter also forms the basis of our philosophy here at Clothes Rail: Women shop not only for T-Shirts and trainers via the internet, but also glamour, luxury, quality and style. Indeed, Net-a-Porter recently sold for three hundred and fifty million pounds, demonstrating the power and will of women to shop for the latest in fashion online.
So what are the fashion trends that count this coming season?
Take a look at the August publication of Vogue and you will see the resurgence of ‘wearable’ garments this Autumn/Winter: Designers have revised our wardrobe essentials, reviving chunky comfortable knitwear, camel coats, aviator jackets, knee-grazing leather skirts, sweeping capes/cloaks and tailored trousers. Understated chic is the desired look, achieved by wearing minimalist pieces in luxury fabrics, and although the autumnal shades of tweedy brown, camel, toffee and oatmeal are the main trend, an injection of winter icy blues and acid yellows have also featured on most fashion runways.
The knitted look is definitely the one to go for, with chunky sweaters, knitted cardigans, cotton sweater dresses, wool skirts, trousers and coats all featuring on the catwalks. The shearling aviator jacket is regarded the fashion masterpiece of the season, whilst the oversized take on the camel coat is said to be the wardrobe staple.
What’s more, designers are celebrating womanliness with an array of longer length circle and pencil skirts, prom style dresses and bustiers. Smart, sexy, leg lengthening trousers that accentuate the bum and small of the back are also parading back into the fashion arena, worn with blouses or shrunken sweaters and cinched with skinny belts to accentuate tiny waists.
In keeping with these fashion trends, Clothes Rail will be stocking the latest in Full Circle and People’s Market women’s clothing this October. Alongside these existing brands, Clothes Rail is also in the process of introducing the Lipsy Collection of beautiful, quality women’s pieces, including stylish dresses, shrunken sweaters and the Pixie Lott range. So keep checking back on our website for the arrival of our Autumn/Winter collection....

"I had ordered the Sabinah Full Circle black and white skirt in a size 8 from another mail order outlet but it was just too small. So I was delighted to find the skirt in a size 10 through Hunter Simpson Clothes Rail when I googled it. I ordered it, and it arrived yesterday - perfect fit, lovely skirt, very reasonable price and quick delivery. All in all very happy and would like to be added to your mailing list. However, I do have one comment - the skirt was folded and put into a plastic envelope with no form of protection/tissue paper etc around it. Could be worth looking at adding another layer to protect the goods whilst in transit." (Emma Swan, March 2010)
"Dear Sir/Madam, I was delighted with your service and the product. Absolutely first class, I will buy again. Thank you, Grant." (March, 2010)
"Just checked out your new website and its BRILLIANT!!! you should both be very very proud of yourselves! I think the layout is great, the merchandise is fab and love the ''personnal info'' you shared with your customers about your present, and future plans (which all sound very exciting!) Well done!"
(Louise Ackerman; February 2010)
"I really like the new website! You've done a fantastic job - very professional! It's really clear and user friendly. I especially like the fact that existing customers have volunteered to model for you - not only because it's nice to see the clothes modelled by people that other customers can relate to, but the fact that they have given up their time to do this for you, i think, is a reflection of the positive relationship that you have built with your customers. I think the idea of clothes parties is fantastic and I think it is really good that your website offers customers the opportunity to set up payment plans, making buying new, good quality clothes an option for people like me!!!"
(L. Beestin; February 2010)
"1st impressions of the site are strong, for it's 1st showing is
effective & in time I'm sure will progress. The layout is easy to understand making the site easy to navigate. On a constructive note I feel that more popular brands should be used to draw in a wider group of shoppers & better use of lighting could be used to highlight the clothes. Hope it helps. Vini."
(Vincent Evans; January 2010)
"Hello!!! Looks good but just a couple of thoughts…since women are key shoppers would it be good to have women then men then children etc on bar at top to find stuff with fragrance last? Also I think the pictures of clothes on the model are good (you look fab!!) but I also think it’d be good to show the clothing just by itself and from the back in additional photos if possible as when you’re buying online you need to see as much as you can? Great otherwise free delivery is good!!! Hope that’s helpful don’t mean to be picky just think those little things would make a difference xx"
(R. Sirriyeh; January 2010)
Clothes Rail would like to give a special thanks to our models, who are all customers of Clothes Rail that have given their time to help us develop our website.
